Freeze-pop Friezes
Here's a cool way to be creative on a hot summer day -- the more these paint-filled pops melt, the better they work. If you don't want to use your family's Popsicle molds for your kids' art, you can freeze the paint mixture in small paper cups instead.
Materials
popsicle molds or small paper cups and foil
water
powdered tempera paint
craft sticks
large roll of paper (available at craft stores)
Instructions
Freeze-pop Friezes Step 1 For each color, fill a Popsicle mold or paper cup 3/4 full of water. Add a tablespoon of tempera powder and stir with a craft stick. If you're using a mold, replace the plastic stick or insert a craft stick and freeze the mixture until solid. If you're using a cup, wrap foil over the top and insert a craft stick handle, then freeze until solid.
When you're ready to paint, run the molds under warm water for a few seconds to dislodge the pops, or peel off the paper cups.
Unroll the paper and use the pops as you would paintbrushes. Let the paint dry before displaying.
